Four Kinds of Amnesty

Over the years there has been a long struggle to deal with 12 million plus illegal aliens. Back in 1986 Reagan made his biggest mistake of his Presidency. He granted amnesty to a couple million illegals with the promise of enforcing border security. That border security did not happen and now we are deal with millions more.

In this attached article there are four basic methods of dealing with this issue.

For those of you who followed this blog over the years probably know where I stand. For those who are unsure, option #3 is where I stand.

One the one end of the spectrum is amnesty with no questions asked and no pre-conditions. This where most progressives are at and apparently many business owners as evidenced by the Chamber of Commerce stance on Rubio' s gang of eight amnesty plan from a few years back.

On the other end is the round em up and ship em back. I know there are some out there who will not agree with me on this but I really don't think the Trump stance is doable. The logistics behind rounding up 12-20 million illegals would be daunting at best. And I know some of my progressive friends won't believe it but I do have some compassion. I think the human toll would be more than we might be prepared to pay.

That compassion and that they ARE here illegally causes me to bend towards option #3.

I think this option will cause self deportation. If the jobs aren't there they just won't stay.

I have heard the argument that the illegals do the jobs we won't do. I say BS to that. Growing up in the late 1970's I worked at many of the jobs now dominated by illegals. At 14 I picked strawberries and other summer fruits. Over the next few years I bused tables, cleaned up at construction sites, pulled weeds and mowed lawns, and washed dishes. With teenage unemployment over 20% and twice as high in some segments there wouldn't be a shortage of available employees. If businesses have trouble getting these teenagers to take these jobs, then they will HAVE to offer higher wages. No government intervention necessary. And we have to stop Molly-coodling these kids. No, washing dishes or pulling weeds is not below your station in life.

Building the "wall" is imperative. We must have border security. This might cause liberal heads to explode but folks from other countries do not have a right to come here without following the law. And to turn the tables a little, if these illegals voted conservative liberals would be demanding deportation and the wall. And before you liberals say that is the only reason most conservatives want the wall is because most illegals vote democrat I remind you the Chamber of Commerce supported the gang of eight amnesty bill. The Chamber of Commerce is a very conservative group.

Meet the Illegal Immigrants Champion, Rep Luis Gutierrez

To say the Illinois Representative Luis Gutierrez is an illegal immigrant amnesty radical would be understating things a bit. In this link here he is advocating President Obama bypass Congress and put the DREAM Act into law without any action from Congress. He has also said that “comprehensive immigration reform” should be enacted as soon as possible. By that he means all illegal immigrants currently residing in the US should be granted automatic citizenship because they are here. Never mind that they broke our laws and never mind they never should have been here in the first place.

My first experience with Rep Gutierrez was watching him on Fox News a couple of years back. Since then, he has been a little like disgraced NY Congressman Anthony Wiener in that he is a democrat not afraid to step into the lion’s den that is Fox News. His platform has almost always been exclusively pro-amnesty, speaking out against the Arizona and Georgia laws, a huge proponent of the DREAM Act, and basically pushing for a blanket amnesty for all Latino illegal immigrants.

 

Why Do We Oppose Amnesty

If the liberals and progressives ever wanted to know why there is such strong opposition to illegal immigration amnesty from conservatives the story here tells it all.

Is it any wonder why there are so many of us are so opposed to amnesty? A story like this only reinforces the feeling that these folks really don't have a desire to be American citizens. IF (a really big “if" IMO) those attending the game were, as the author pointed out, "naturalized citizens" (did he card check them all as they came in?), why were they not cheering for their home country side. They are no longer Mexicans, they are Americans. I am of Irish heritage and proud of it and I have been known to root for the "green" on occasion. But I would never root for the Irish over America.

I also have to agree with goalie Tim Howard. He was probably very frustrated with the loss and let his mouth run a little more than he should have. But having the ceremony in Spanish was a little too much. If all of these folks were American citizens, then there was no reason why the ceremony needed to be in Spanish.  After all, don’t we speak English in this country?

Maryland Gives In-State Tuition to Illegals

I know that I have been blogging a lot lately about illegal immigrants and the push to grant them an easy path to citizenship. But I am concerned that Obama and his group are making pushes to complete their progressive agenda.  Because of this push, shining a light on this agenda is my way of pushing back.

As the liberals begin to get the idea that most Americans are not on board with their progressive agenda, they are starting to get a little desperate.  One after another, there are laws passed that most do not want, but have been on the progressive’s plate for a while. Tick them off using your fingers: Health Care, Restrictive speech (politically correct, campaign contribution disclosure for federal contracts), 2nd Amendment (although Heller vs. DC set them back), banning of incandescent bulb.

Is Amnesty Around the Corner?

Speaking of Michelle Malkin, she has a GREAT column on President Obama’s latest toe-dip into the pool of immigration reform (code words for amnesty). In her column she makes clear this new push for amnesty is nothing more than a political push as we approach 2012. I think anyone who can add 1+1 and come up with 2 already know this, but Michelle has done an awesome job of putting the pieces together.

In a previous post I directed you to a commencement speech given by Obama where he made it abundantly clear that the next box he wants to check off is granting some form of amnesty for the 12+ million illegal immigrants currently residing illegally in the US.  The DREAM Act is only the first step. I firmly believe that if the DREAM Act is passed, it will only be a short matter of time before more action is taken in granting some form of citizenship to all illegals.

Is Obama A Policy Wonk or A Political Hack?

Are President Obama’s policy decisions based on what he truly feels is best for the country or are they calculated political moves?

Over the course of his 2+ years in office Obama has tackled a few very controversial issues, with the American public at large not behind the decisions he has made.

In his first big policy decision he took on health care. I don’t really think you’ll get much arguement from any corner of the political spectrum that the health care system in America needed some fixing. Rising costs in actual health care expenses and insurance are a huge concern for almost everyone. Even folks who might be considered well-do-to are looking at their health care expenses (now and in the future) and wondering how to pay for it all. And there are also those who have no hope of affording any kind of health care coverage except for emergency care which is generally taxpayer covered if one cannot afford to pay.

DREAM Act Coming Soon

Just in case you were wondering if I was just bloviating about the DREAM Act, Politico (not my favorite site but it has its uses) has the story and it surely looks like the democrats are going to reintroduce the DREAM Act. The last time it passed the democrat-controlled House, but I don’t think it will even make it to the Senate where it failed to overcome a filibuster the last time.

I do want to add that I am not necessarily against the DREAM Act, but I don’t like it in its current form and I fear what comes after. I have absolutely no doubts that Obama and the progressives will attempt to pass further legislation that will grant more and more illegal immigrants (we don’t call them undocumented workers here at PACNW Righty) amnesty.
