Iran Mixed Up in Middle East Unrest

Here is something that must have Glenn Beck feeling good.  Defense officials have acknowledged that Iran is meddling in Middle Eastern affairs, either stirring up troubles, or helping leadership in various countries brutally put down protests.

Beck has mentioned several (here and here) times since the unrest began in Egypt that Iran might be a player in all of this. He has said that Iranian President Ahmadinejad thinks it is time to bring about the 12th Iman. To do this, there must be unrest in world. Beck had been derided as a goof-ball for saying things like this, but now it seems US officials are at least partially proving him right.

Iranians Take to the Streets

The Iranians are at again. Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Tehran to protest the oppressive government of Dictator President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. One protester was killed. The uprising are supposedly in support of the recent protests in Egypt, which successfully pushed out Mubarak. Iranian security police were out in force, clamping down on the protesters and blockading the home of a leader of an opposition group.

So far, it appears the protests have not crossed over to be against the Iranian government. But one wonders how much crack down by government forces will push the protesters into the same mode they were in the last time there were massive protests in 2009.  If Iranians who wish for a different form of government continue to protest, will President Obama ignore them like the last time?  And will the MSM latch on to these protests as they did with the Egyptian protests?  Will the media see these protests as a desire for freedoms?  Only time will tell.
