Richmond, CA Mayor Slaps Veterans in the Face

Leftist Richmond, CA, Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, Green Party member, has told the veterans that she represent in her city (although I doubt many voted for her) that they can go pound sand. Rather than go to a Veteran’s event today, she choose to attend an OWS event instead.

Mayor Gayle McLaughlin will miss a Veterans Day salute in favor of an Occupy Richmond “public speak out.” The San Jose Mercury News reported.

McLaughlin defended her decision, telling the newspaper that the city is not sponsoring the Veterans Day event, and the rally she will attend will honor Scott Olsen, the Iraq war veteran injured at an Occupy Oakland rally last month. Richmond and Oakland, both in the San Francisco Bay Area, are about 12 miles apart.

“I chose to honor our veterans, not only on Veteran’s Day, but daily, by supporting an end to military warfare to prevent further fighting and dying in needless wars,” she said in an email. “I am a strong supporter of Veterans for Peace and Iraq Vets Against the War.” (Source: The Blaze)

That her choice is disgusting really goes without saying, and we do live in a (mostly) free country. What does chap my hide though is the fact that she is completely oblivious as to why and how we live in this free nation. If she really does believe that people like her OWS crowd and others in the counter-culture movement are the ones who provide our unprecedented levels of freedom, then there is probably no way to get the truth through to her.

Typical leftist. Note that she supports those vets who also support her radical-left agenda. She can't be bothered to show support to the other "99%". Although, through actions and deeds, the Veteran supports her agenda by allowing her the freedom to express herself, she still can't find the day out of her busy day, even in a stinkin' email, to to give a shout out to all the other vets who wouldn't dream of attending an OWS rally.

Maybe Mayor McLaughlin needs to read this:

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier,
Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

-- Father Dennis Edward O’Brian, USMC

One damn day out of the year she can come down off her progressive high horse and pay her respects to the men and women who have sacrificed so much over the last 237 years is not too much to ask. Opting to go to an anarchist’s rally rather than an event to honor the best and brightest is beneath contempt.

Totally agree, but how can you expect someone that lives just across the bay from Princess Nancy's district act any other way. As a retired vet I must be missing something that the California crowd sees clearly. Keep up the good work.
