Michael Steele is out as RNC Chairman. After a controversial tenure as RNC Chairman, Michael Steele dropped out of the race for a second two year term as the RNC’s top dog. Reince Preibus will succeed Steele.
Steele was controversial due to some mistakes he made and spending issues. After he gave up his reelection bid Steele took to podium and said, “I hope you all appreciate the legacy I leave, despite the noise. Despite the difficulties, we won.” Steele was an easy target for the media because, unlike previous RNC Chairs, he was in the spotlight lending his voice, face, and time in the Republicans efforts to take back Congress. In this, he was successful with Republicans taking more seats in the House of Representatives in an off year than in more than 70 years.
Preibus is a little different than Steele. He is quieter and lets “the candidates speak for the party”. As the former Wisconsin Republican state chairman, he helped republicans pick “up the governorship, a Senate seat, and two House seats last November” (Guardian.co.uk). Hopefully he’ll be able to clear up the funding issues that Steele has left behind and lead the republicans to the White House in 2012.
