Washington State employees used the holiday to show solidarity with the protesting (striking, work-stoppage?) state employees of Wisconsin. Even Dennis Kucinich, former Democratic Presidential hopeful was there to lead support.
“You cannot have a democracy if you don’t have people in a position to be able to negotiate for their wages and to have decent benefits,” Kucinich said, lauding Washington as being a “bastion for workers’ rights,” where people have the capacity to push back.
He also hopes the ‘rally in Olympia would ripple across the country’.
Based on his statements I am fearful that Kucinich is speaking about the truest form of democracy where the mob rules. Unbeknownst to him, we don’t live in a ‘true’ democracy, we live in a Republic. The Founding Fathers abhorred democracy, preferring a representative government that while working for the majority, was in place to protect the minority.
