President Obama has stated several times that he likes the way the Brits run their health care system. I wonder if this was one of the points of their system that he likes?
According to Dr Daphne Austin, it all comes down to money and how it is spent:
“We are doing more harm than good by resuscitating 23-weekers. I can’t think of very many interventions that have such poor outcomes. For me the big issue is that we’re spending an awful lot of money on treatments that have very marginal benefits. I would prefer to free up that money to spend on providing support to people who have much more lifelong chronic conditions.”
No one has ever accused the British for not saying what is on their minds. This doctor does just that.
I keep thinking to myself why does the stereotype of the conservative get such a bad reputation for not caring about people and wanting to control their lives? But when you really sit down and think about it, maybe it is the progressives (liberals?) who want the control. They want to control how you spend your money (by taking it in the form of taxes), they want to control how you receive health care (Obama Care), they want to control what you drive and how you drive it (GM and the Volt, and Capt and Trade), and they want to control who lives and dies (this goes all the way back to Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood). I don’t know if Orwell was aware of this or not, and despite what college professors might say about it, 1984 was not written about conservatives, but about progressives. All the evidence is right in front of our faces. All one has to do is open their eyes.
