Union representative goes off on the employees he represents. Maryland prison guard say that Steve Berger, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union rep went off on a profanity laced tirade at some of the employees when he was asked where some of the union dues money went during the campaign seasons. He even challenged one guard a fight and called one of the employees a “Republican”, which I guess in the union leadership mind is a dirty word.
The prison guards sent copies of the complaint to Republican Rep Chris Shank who in turn asked Public Safety and Correctional Services Secretary Gary Maynard to look into the matter.
I guess these union reps are feeling the heat right now as state governments look for ways to balance out of whack budgets. But to take your frustrations on the folks you represent is crossing a line. Last night Glenn Back made it a point to speak to union members to start standing up for what they believed (Remember the source, Media Matters, when reading the comments at the link), and these AFSCME members apparently feel that Berger crossed a line.
