In the past I have blogged about how the left has treated Israel and that I can’t understand how American Jews continue to support progressive candidates (here, here, here, and here). Now Donald over at American Power Blog has provided some analysis on the Goldstone Report and a subsequent debate on the report’s contents. Although it makes for a longish read, make sure that you click through the links provided for depth and detail on the report and the debate outcome. It will be well worth your time.
The Goldstone Report, written by Justice Richard Goldstone, was a very biased and flawed report on Israel’s actions and reactions to the continuous rocket attacks by Hamas from Gaza and other Palestinian controlled areas. Keep in mind that the UN also had a hand in the report. That alone makes the report immediately debatable, given the UN’s track record when it comes to Israel and their right to self defense. During a debate at Stanford it is quite possible that Peter Berkowski and Avi Bell may have changed Justice Goldstone’s mind. Make sure you click on the rebuttal link.
My take away on this is how the leftist press (yes, Obama and democrat supporters) leaped on this report and hammered away at Israel, always blaming Israel for the problems but never holding the Palestinians accountable for their actions. As always, I ask, why does the democrat party continue to receive support from American Jews when, by all appearances, democrats do not support Israel’s right to exist and self defense.
